Your first showing at 1426 W 40th St: a quick checklist
A first showing is equal parts excitement and homework. You want to fall for the house, and you also want to leave with your questions answered. Here is a short, practical checklist built around the features this home is known for, so you can enjoy the tour and still see everything that matters.
1. Start outside, at the curb
Walk the front before you go in. Note the brick facade, the attached garage, the condition of the driveway, and the landscaping. Then go around back: the fully fenced yard is one of the headline features here. Look at the fence line, the raised garden bed, and the storage sheds, and picture how you would actually use the space.
2. The covered patio
The covered patio sits off the back of the house with a ceiling overhead, which means shade and dry space in most weather. Think about morning coffee here, an outdoor dinner, or simply watching the yard. It is a small square of comfort that does real work.
3. The updated kitchen
The kitchen is white shaker cabinetry, dark counters, and stainless appliances. Check the layout with your own habits in mind: counter space, cabinet storage, and the path from the garage to the fridge. An updated kitchen already in place is money you do not have to spend in year one.
4. The full basement
This is the room to spend a few extra minutes in. Decide what it would be for you: recreation, workshop, gym, or storage. Look at the finished recreation area and the utility space, check the lighting, and think about what finishing touches it might want. Basements read different on a phone screen than in person.
5. Bedrooms and baths
There are three bedrooms, two full baths, and a half bath. The new carpeting is already down through the main living areas, so note how the rooms feel with fresh flooring in place. The primary suite gets a second look for closet space and natural light.
6. Storage, inside and out
Abundant storage is one of the selling points, so test it. Open the closets, look at the basement, and count the outbuildings. A house that keeps your stuff organized quietly makes every day easier.
“Bring a notebook, walk the basement twice, and spend two quiet minutes on the patio.”
